Devin Brown, 23, was facing eight charges in the case, the Atlantic City Police Department said in a news release. He has a prior conviction and was released from state prison earlier in 2024.

Officers responded to a home on the 1300 block of Baltic Avenue at around 2:53 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29. A woman reported that Brown had entered her home, prompting her to lock herself in the bathroom.

Investigators said Brown, who had been in a relationship with the victim, destroyed her belongings while inside the home. Police also determined Brown had assaulted the victim the day before and criminal charges were filed against him for the incidents.

About two weeks later, two officers spotted Brown on the 1500 block of Atlantic Avenue on Saturday, Dec. 14. Brown ran away from police and officers chased him until he tried to board a New Jersey Transit bus.

Police caught up to Brown and after a struggle, he was taken into custody. Officers discovered a loaded gun in his pocket during the arrest.

Brown was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, along with terrorist threats, criminal mischief, unlawful possession of a weapon, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest. He was being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

According to state Department of Corrections records, Brown was previously convicted of a gun charge and two drug charges, stemming from incidents in Passaic County in 2019 and 2020. After serving his sentence, Brown was released from state prison on Friday, May 3.
